Magnetic Mineral Sculpture: Buckeye Burl - Archimedian Solid (cuboctohedron)

This sculpture is in the classic lapidary form of an Archimedean solid, the Cuboctohedron. The sculpted piece is made from Buckeye Burl from the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the natural pattern voids are inlaid with Blue Turquoise and a green stone found hiking in Central Oregon (we call it 'Oregon Green Stone'). The Cuboctohedron itself balances on its driftwood base using magnets to hold it in place. This feature gives the sculpture the ability to rotate in place and be displayed a variety of ways.
